SOPHIE LAMB TURNS PROFESSIONAL AHEAD OF HERO WOMEN’S INDIAN OPEN

Gurugram (India), October 16, 2018: England’s Sophie Lamb is to turn professional at this week’s Hero Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon.

The 21-year-old from Lancashire has enjoyed a successful amateur career, most recently representing England at the World Amateur Golf Championships and Great Britain & Ireland at the 2018 Curtis Cup. Other notable amateur achievements include winning the 2016 British Ladies Strokeplay and being part of the 2017 England Team that won the European Ladies Championships.

Sophie had a taste of women’s professional golf when she played in the 2017 Ricoh Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns, where she won the Smyth Salver as the leading amateur in a tie for 30th position, before receiving an invitation to the Ladies European Tour Omega Dubai Ladies Classic.

“I have been very grateful for the support England have given me in my amateur career; they have set me up on a good pathway, winning the Smyth Salver was a highlight for me and I am looking forward to the future as a professional now,” said Lamb, adding: “It will be good to go to India, to play against the Ladies European Tour players; it is what I want to be doing next year on a regular basis, so it’s good for me to keep gaining experience in the lead up to Q School. I am very thankful for the invite from Hero.”

Lamb will be represented at Wasserman by Brendan Taylor, Executive Vice President and Head of Golf EMEA. “I’m really excited to be joining Wasserman, my family have known Brendan personally for many years and it’s great now to be under his management team.”

“I used to play junior golf with Sophie’s father, so it’s exciting now to welcome Sophie into the Wasserman family,” said Taylor. “She is a really talented player and showed that against the very best in the world at the Ricoh Women’s British Open in 2017. Women’s sport is a top priority at Wasserman and we are delighted to have Sophie within our European Golf Division.”

Lamb has also signed partnerships with Senator, Bowskill Clinic, Blackburn Chemicals, Ping and adidas ahead of her debut professional season.

Following the Hero Women’s Indian Open, Lamb will set her sights on the Ladies European Tour Q School, named Lalla Aicha Tour School, taking place in Morocco in December.
